We congratulate editor Dr. Walter Dujmovits
and staff for achieving this milestone of the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft
magazine. Having recently cele-
brated the BG 50th anniversary, they’ve published in excess of eight
copies a year for 50 years, quite an achievement! Taken together they form
the first archive of Burgenland „Auswanderer“ Material. This edition’s
feature article concerns another 50th anniversary, that of the Hungarian „freedom
fight“ of 1956. Over 200K people eventually were forced to flee Hungary,
most came through the Burgenland, aided by the inhabitants. Many
eventually emigrated to the Americas and now form a large Hungarian ethnic
group. A great story and one that survives through this publication. The
BG Magazine may be read or ordered by going to:
www.burgenlaender.com/BG
BG membership is available from the same source.
Parts of the BG Magazine are now written in English (including articles by
your editor and Walter Dujmovits, Jr.). This change was a promise made to
me in 2001 by Dr. Dujmovits. We both hoped it would be well accepted by
the younger generation which may not know German. Pictures of Burgenland
ethnic events and families worldwide are included and can’t be found
anywhere else. I keep my copies of the BG News for reference, but only
have copies from 1993. A query to one of the BG staff will always supply
an answer. Some of the serialized articles such as Immigrant Villages,
American Cities of Burgenland Settlement, Burgenland Food (Kochsezepte),
ethnic clubs and organizations, then and now pictures of villages and
events, etc. form a vast resource of material pertaining to the
Auswanderung. This magazine remembers our immigrant ancestors and
relatives and their memories will live on through the efforts of both the
Burgenland Bunch News and the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft Magazine.
Do you want to know who the first immigrant was from your village of
origin? Do you want a recipe for a Burgenland specialty? Do you want to be
advised of new Burgenland books being published? Would you like the words
and music to a Volks song? Do you want to know what is happening in a
foreign Burgenland enclave? See the BG Magazine. Just a few of the many
items found in every issue of the BG Magazine. I eagerly anticipate its
appearance in my mail box.
Support the the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft Magazine and protect your
heritage by a member-
ship in the BG. Also visit the BG INTERNET SHOP:

You can still order a free English Language 50 Years BG Festschrift, but
time is getting short.
