What a reason to be proud and happy!
This year, we´re going to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the
„Burgenländische Gemeinschaft”.
Since half a century, thousands of Burgenländers et cis et trans oceanum
Atlanticum have been in touch with the help of a small company of people
in a very small office established in the rather small village of
Mogersdorf (and now Güssing). Plenty of charter flights have been
organized, thousands of people, sons and mothers, fathers and sisters have
been brought together after a long-time period of absence. Some of them
even had met the very first time!
The „Gemeinschaft“ has also been helpful when the Bishop of Eisenstadt or
politicians like the Governor or the Vice-Governor have been planning a
tour to the Burgenländers in the United States. I am very happy that, in
the meantime, these visits have become a good tradition.
Whoever is reading this magazine knows about the history and the
importance of the „Burgenländische Gemeinschaft“.
And everybody knows the spirit behind these simple German words.
The „Burgenländische Gemeinschaft” will celebrate its anniversary during a
festive week
at the end of June and beginning of July.

So you see how important the „Burgenländische Gemeinschaft“ has been in
the past and will also be in future times.
At the beginning of 2006, Austria has assumed presidency over the
European Union. Thus, Austria will be responsible for the development of
the common European politics in the next sixth months. Meetings of the
European Councils will be held not only in Vienna, but also in Bregenz,
Innsbruck, Salzburg, Villach, Bad Ischl, Krems, Graz and Eisenstadt and
Rust, (where the Federal Ministers of Environment Politics will meet). Two
Austrian politicians, Federal Chancellor (Prime Minister) Dr. Wolfgang
Schüssel and Secretary of State, Dr. Ursula Plassnik, will preside over
most of these meetings.
The main topics will be:
legislation, employment market, discussions about the further expansion of
the European Union (Bulgaria, Romania can probably become members in 2007;
Macedonia, Albania, Serbia-Montenegro, Croatia and Turkey are aiming at
membership in the course of the next ten years),
the constitution (which had been rejected by France and the Netherlands in
2005), budget.
Let´s hope it will be a good presidency. For Austria and for Europe.
Yours Walter Dujmovits, jun.
