Spas in Burgenland

Asking people what kind of vacation they prefer you may learn that the number of those who take care of their beauty and wellness is increasing rapidly. Therefore the region of Burgenland has good opportunities to fulfil the wishes of many Austrian or foreign guests. Our country, as well as the neighbouring parts of Styria and Hungary, is situated in a geological zone that makes hot water come out in sources. Some villages can already use it in spas.
There are a few spas in Styria, e.g. in Bad Waltersdorf and Bad Loipersdorf, both close to the border to Burgenland, and in Bad Radkersburg, as well as in Hungary, like Sarvar or Bük. Since the middle of the 9O's, Burgenland also has been gaining in them, supported by the European Union, which is giving huge financial aid to our country to help us building up tourism besides the region around the Neusiedler See. The villages only could not accomplish these tasks.
Lutzmannsburg-Frankenau, Bad Tatzmannsdorf and Stegersbach have the largest spas in Burgenland nowadays. lt is only Bad Tatzmannsdorf to have great experience in tourism, whereas the other towns have to build up infrastructure like hotels, restaurants, roads, etc. These things cost money. So 1,3 billion of Schillings (that is about 100 millions of dollars) have been invested into the spa, into hotels and the so-called ,,Golfschaukel" in Stegersbach only.
The spa of Stegersbach was formed by the famous artist Gottfried Kumpf. It has five pools, some of them outside, and three slides. The water is suitable for therapies against some skin diseases, e.g. psoriasis. It is surrounded by a ,,Golfschaukel", which means, that there are five ways to play the course with 45 holes at all.
Many of young Burgenländers get work in the spas and can stay in their home villages. Besides this, landscape in Burgenland is changing: due to the decline of agriculture in our country farmland becomes smaller, whereas golf courses and other areas you can do your sport on increase. We are faced with a big change in tourism in Burgenland. I am sure that most of the people agree with the new Situation that makes the country more interesting.
