The Burgenländische Gemeinschaft (BG)

is an association that was established in 1956 with the objective to build a global community of Burgenländers, notably of Burgenländers who emigrated to other European countries, to the U.S.A. or other overseas countries, and to foster their and their descendants attachment to Burgenland.

Members receive a periodical newletter with news about what is happening in Burgenland and to Burgenländers all over the world.

All over the world Burgenländers have established regional chapters of the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft. They contribute substantially to promoting the image of their homeland abroad and are important opinion-makers for the Austrian economy and tourism. T

Those Burgenländers are already friends of our home country and need not be won through costly promotions for Austria and the Burgenland.

The mission of the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft is

  • to promote the interests of expatriate Burgenländers
  • to organize tours and trips to visit friends and family
  • to arrange the presentation of gifts on behalf of friends or family
  • to publish a periodic newsletter
  • to organize get-togethers
  • to organize events according to the aim of the BG

As an acknowledged representative of the interests of expatriate Burgenländers and through its ties with the "Auslandsösterreicher Weltbund" as well as the ministry of foreign affairs, the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft also has a big say in all matters that concern expatriate Austrians.

How to join

To sign up for BG membership, please submit in writing your name, your full postal address and possibly your phone and fax numbers and your e-mail address.

To do so, use our online registration form (Registration) or send your registration by post to either to the BG office in Güssing or to your local representative (List of representatives).

After you have been listed as a BG member, you will receive an initial copy of the BG newsletter. Attached you will find a payment slip for the  annual dues. Upon receipt of payment, your membership will be activated.

Membership dues and privileges

The annual dues for membership are  EUR 15 or  USD 15 for outside of Austria. 

Members resident in Austria are requested to use the BG's payment slips to transfer the amount. Members resident abroad may submit the amount in cash to their local representative (List of Representatives)  or alternatively send a check or money order to the BG office in Güssing.
