Coplay Saengerbund
Anniversary draws full house

The upper hall at the Coplay Saengerbund had a standing-room-only crowd June 26 as the club celebrated its 88th anniversary, and its chorus hosted the traditional Stiftungsfest concert.
Outside under the large Linden trees and roofed pavilions, another 300 or more enjoyed the polka and Austrian music of the Emil Schanta Orchestra.
Featured at the concert in the air-conditioned hall were the Emil Schanta Orchestra, the Coplay Saengerbund Chorus under the direction of Joseph Weber and the Hianz’nchor, directed by Robert Strauch and the pianist Kathy Alonzo.
Saengerbund President Fritz Mondschein welcomed the guest choruses, Reading Liederkranz Chorus and the Lehigh Saengerbund Chorus of Allentown.
The Saengerbund chorus sang several numbers together along with the men and women having selected songs. They closed with a performance of „Armed Forces Salute,“ waving small American flags as the songs ended. The choir is comprised of 28 members.

The Hianz’nchor, quartered at the Saengerbund, whose members come from across the region, sang also several songs. Its members include 11 women and 5 men. Directing the Lehigh Saengerbund Singers was Clinton Miller. Elizabeth

Hinkle directed the Reading Liederkranz Singers.
