On the occasion of the new election of the presidency of the BG in Chicago,
to which we had conveyed our best congratulations, we received the following
letter from president Billisits: Dear Members and Supporters of the
Burgenländische Gemeinschaft:
I want to introduce myself. My name is Karl Billisits. At the meeting on April
4th, 2004, I was elected president of the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft. I am
certain that you will share my excitement as I serve the needs of the club.
During the years as an active member, I have been firmly commited to success of
the BG. I have been member for forty years, vice president from 1992-2004, and
treasurer from 1995-2004. I am honored to be president of the Burgenländische
Gemeinschaft. I am proud of the many active members who over the years have
contributed to the efforts of the organization.
Tom Glatz was chosen as the new vice president and secretary. He has been active
in the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft since 1990 and a member since 1980. He also
continues on as the membership chairman. He is a second generation American of
Burgenland descent. He encourages others of his generation to become active and
support the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft.
Steve Karlovics was elected treasurer. He was also president of the organization
from 1984-1987. He has been an active member of the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft
for forty years.
The club is in the process of building for the future. This is an important time
for the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft. We are planning our Martini-Fest on
November 5th. It is our first regular dance in several years and we hope to make
this an annual event. We rely on your support to help make this a success.
We chose the theme of Martini-Fest because St. Martin ist the patron saint of
and born in the present day Burgenland. His feast day is November 11th. In some
villages an event called the Martini-Tanz or Martini-Fest is held in his honor.
We felt this theme would be unique to our organization.
We hope to see you at our dance!
Karl Billisits
